Installing OpenSSL on Cent OS

1. Check openssl version
Open SSL is already installed on your machine so first check its version.

# openssl version
OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008

2. Download openssl version of your choice

http://www.openssl.org/source/

or

wget http://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-X.X.X.tar.gz

openssl

3. Extract it
# tar -xvf openssl-1.0.1c.tar.gz
Go to openssl-1.0.3c directory

# make clean
# ./config shared –prefix=/usr –openssldir=/usr/local/openssl

–prefix=DIR Install in DIR/bin, DIR/lib, DIR/include/openssl.
Configuration files used by OpenSSL will be in DIR/ssl
or the directory specified by –openssldir.

–openssldir=DIR Directory for OpenSSL files. If no prefix is specified.

          
# make && make test
# make install

5. Check if it installed successfully

# openssl version
